Jennifer Lynn Valenta-Tietjen, known affectionately as Jenn, Mom, Momma, or Momma Duck, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, at VCU-MCV Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. Daughter of LCDR David M. and Dolores (Lorrie) M. Valenta, Jennifer was born on October 4, 1976 in Philadelphia, Pa. She was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Rappahannock Community College, Gloucester, Virginia.
Jennifer’s early education laid the foundation for her lifelong passion for learning and improvement and her career of many years as a Registered Nurse working in the Emergency Department of multiple medical facilities throughout the central and eastern Virginia area.
Jennifer was a devoted mother, and her legacy continues through her children, Dustin Tietjen, Brandon Tietjen-Abner (Grace), Sage Tietjen-Forsythe, and her grandson, Matix Ulrich. Jennifer is also survived by her mother, Dolores M. (Lorrie) Valenta; brother, David M. Valenta Jr. (Beth), and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, LCDR David M. Valenta.
Jennifer will be remembered for her love of family, her strong faith and devotion to her church community, her unyielding work ethic, and her ability to inspire those around her. Her contributions to her family, her community, and all those she came in contact with leave an indelible mark that will not be forgotten.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 10-11 a.m. at the Church of Francis de Sales, Mathews, with a Mass of Resurrection following at 11.
