JENNIE WOODROW HOGG GREENE

Jennie Woodrow Hogg Greene, 98, passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at her home in Wicomico, Gloucester County, Va., surrounded by her adoring family.

Jennie was born on Jan. 21, 1914, a daughter of the late John Walter Hogg and Sadie Ann Hogg West. She married Stanley R. Greene Sr. in May 1929 and together they raised a family of five girls and four boys.

Residing in Gloucester all her life, she was a consummate mother and homemaker. Jennie was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends.

She was always proud of her heritage and became a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Williamsburg Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Matriarch of the family, her life was no ordinary life but a life well lived and loved. Her memory offers comfort with the enduring love her family will keep alive in their hearts. They will remember the happiest moments filled with joy and find solace in the many ways she has touched so many lives. Her voice is still heard, her life still inspires, her light still shines and always will.

She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley R. Greene Sr. in 1985, and her devoted son, Ellis Greene in 2009.

She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her daughters, Virginia Harrison (Woody) of Mechanicsville, Bertha Blamey (Bill) of Clarksville, Tenn., Margaret Harris (Ben) of Gloucester, Helen Roberson (Wayne) of Williamsburg, and Sandra Loveland (David) of Gloucester, adoring sons, Stanley Greene Jr. (Bernice) of Gloucester, Dennis Greene (Annette) of Gloucester, and Timothy Greene of Gloucester. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to her caregivers, especially Ashley Brown and Nikki Spears who lovingly cared for her over the past years. In addition, we wish to thank Teresa Hogge and the Hospice staff for their compassionate care.

Services in celebration of her life conducted by the Rev. Dr. Richard Croxton and the Rev. W. Donald Ambrose were held on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment followed in Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family received friends on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
