Jeffrey Scott Nelms, 54, of Gloucester Point, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013.

He was born in Rocky Mount, N.C., to the late Almos L. and Myrtie Abernatny Nelms.

He was a 1976 graduate of Gloucester High School. After graduation he was employed at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. In 1989 he became a trooper for the Virginia State Police and retired in 2010 as a Senior Trooper and Sergeant. He was a member of the Yorktown Masonic Lodge, # 205, A.F. & A.M.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Nelms; his daughters, Brittany Castillo and Adrienne Pena; stepdaughter, Brandy Feuerlein; stepson, Michael Feuerlein; his siblings, Kevin Nelms, Myrtie Hayes, and Susan Nelms, and his grandchildren, Anslie, Miquel, Noah, Sage, and Ryland.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Monday, March 4, 2013, from 6:30-8 p.m. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with burial with full Virginia State Police honors at Windsor Gardens Cemetery, Dutton, Va.
