Jefferson talk rescheduled

A program by Bill Barker, a historical interpreter who portrays Thomas Jefferson at Colonial Williamsburg, has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. next Wednesday, April 4, at Kingston Parish House, 370 Main Street, Mathews. 

Sponsored by the Mathews County Historical Society, the program was originally scheduled for March 21 but was cancelled due to inclement weather.

It will be the second in a series of presentations leading up to a July reenactment and commemoration of the Battle of Cricket Hill and will focus on the map that Jefferson drew of the battle, which took place in July 1776. Barker will talk about the significance of the battle and the consequences it had for the bid for independence in the colonies.

Barker will also discuss Jefferson’s adventures in drafting the Declaration of Independence, which was proclaimed on July 4, 1776. ...
