JEAN TRAINUM MOORE

Jean Trainum Moore of Defuniak Springs, Fla., peacefully passed from this life into eternity on Thursday, April 9, 2015, where she resided near her daughter for the past eight years.

She was born in Craigsville, Va., and grew up in Augusta Springs, Va. As a young woman she relocated to Newport News, where she resided for many years. She began her working career at Newport News Shipyard and then, along with her husband, started While-Away Nursery and DayCare, which grew to be one of the largest daycare facilities and preschools in the Newport News area. She resumed her career as a Civilian Personnel Specialist at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Va., where she advanced to new positions including Equal Opportunity Specialist.  

She is survived by four children, Marshall Cook III and wife Valerie of Gloucester, Va., Adrian Cook Burnette and husband Steve of Florida, Jeffrey Cook of Thailand, and Thomas Mitchell of Thailand. She has enjoyed four grandchildren, Alyssa Burnette Fripp, Ellen Burnette Wolter, Mark Cook, and Laura Cook Morris. She is great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren. She has one sister, Elizabeth Trainum Sheets of Clifton Forge, Va., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas J. and Lois Crawford Trainum; her brothers, William Trainum and Douglas Trainum.   

Jean was a beautiful, kind, intelligent and persevering woman, loved and admired by many. Her memory will be treasured in our hearts always.

The family expresses deep, heartfelt thanks to all of our mother’s amazing caregivers from Stanley House, Gentiva Hospice and Crystal Bay over the last season of life. You enriched her life with love, joy, and happiness and we are forever grateful.

Burial will be in the Craigsville Community Cemetery.
