JEAN MARIE BURNETT DUTTON

Jean Marie Burnett Dutton of Gloucester, departed this life on Jan. 18, 2016 to be with her Lord and Savior.

Jean was born on Aug. 2, 1935. Her husband, Clarence H. Dutton, preceded her in death, as did her parents, the Rev. Omer G. and Eloise Burnett.

She was a 1957 graduate of Virginia Baptist School of Nursing in Lynchburg, Va. She often said, “I was called to be a Nurse just as Daddy was called to preach.” During her nursing career she was known for providing outstanding care to not only her patients, but their families as well.

She loved her Lord, devoted herself to her family and was most happy when she was helping others. Jean loved to cook and bake and if you were one of those lucky enough to sit at her table she made certain you never left her home hungry.

She is survived by her son, Nelson; her daughters, Amy and her husband Frank, and Jennifer; as well as her grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Andrew, Clay and Phillip; a special “daughter of the heart,” Neva, and her husband Jay; and her brother, Omer “Buddy” and his wife Melva, their daughter Lynn and her two children, Marley and Jeb.

Mother requested that her appreciation be expressed to Virginia Power, formerly known as Vepco, for taking such good care of her.

A service of remembrance officiated by the Rev. Dr. Douglas Nagel will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.

In memory of our mother, we ask that you consider donations to the Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 1417, Gloucester, Va. 23061.

Her voice is still heard, her life still inspires, her light still shines and it always will.
