Jayvees beat Grafton in dramatic fashion

The Mathews High School jayvee softball team recovered from a 13-0 shellacking at the hands of the King William Lady Cavaliers last Thursday night to defeat AA Grafton in dramatic fashion Tuesday, 5-2.

In last Thursday’s contest against King William, the MHS girls knew early on it was going to be a tough game, as the entire lineup struck out in order in the first three innings, while the Cavaliers jumped out to a 9-0 lead.

Mathews tried to rally in the fifth inning, with two runners reaching base, but the next two batters struck out to dash any hopes. Harley Trammell and Kelly Adams shared pitching duties and tried to keep the Lady Devils in the game, but countless errors in the field were too much to overcome. Kai McCann and Allison Foster were the only two players with hits for Mathews.
