A disappointing loss for the Mathews High School jayvee soccer team was the result of last Wednesday’s game against the Middlesex Chargers.
In the first half, the Chargers made an early goal, putting pressure on the Mathews defense to prevent the Chargers’ offense from scoring again.
In the second half, the Blue Devils stepped up offensively and Justin Jenkins made the team’s lone goal, assisted by P.J. Johnson. The Chargers came right back, winning the game, 3-1.
The jayvee team dropped its second match in a row Monday night, falling to West Point, 2-0. In the first half, the Devils tried a new formation, and the adjustment proved difficult. The team was also missing two key players. The Pointers scored a hard-to-block goal.
In the second half, Mathews put more pressure on the West Point defense. On a lucky break, the Pointers were able to put in their second goal. First-time Mathews goalie Jack Vrooman, played well with 10 saves.
