JANET PEEBLES HOST

Janet Peebles Host of Gloucester, passed away at home on July 4, 2015 at the age of 85.

Janet attended Hampton Public Schools and graduated from Newport News High School in 1947. She attended Southern Seminary Preparatory School and Farmville State Teachers College (now Longwood University.)

She loved Ware Episcopal Church and all aspects of parish life. She was president of the Hampton Roads Garden Club and served in many endeavors in the Garden Club of Virginia and a member of King’s Daughters and Junior League of Hampton Roads.

Janet had a great love of nature, animals to include stray cats, foxes and an ever present dog. She loved her little home in a wooded setting with meticulous manicuring. Janet was a mother and wife as her sons grew up and later was associated with Swan Tavern Antiques in Yorktown.

She was truly a lady of grace, dignity, compassion and love. Janet’s extended family were very close to her during her illness. Her sons and their wives and grandchildren were a great comfort to her.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Collins Peebles; father, Benjamin Walter Peebles; parents, Dora Lee and Hubert Kenneth Peebles; grandparents, Edna and James Judson Peebles and Dora Bunkley and James Gray; sister, Beverly Peebles Kelly, and a favorite aunt, Chubby Gray. Her only husband T. Parker Host Jr. died in 2013, with whom she shared a caring friendship over many years.

She is survived by her sons, Thomas Parker Host III and wife Patti and David Findlay Host and wife April; grandchildren, Kelsey Host Sarcone and husband Jay Sarcone of Newport, R.I., Wesley Parker Host of Norfolk, Va., David Findlay Host, Jr. and wife Bridget of New Orleans and Amelia Forbes Host and fiancé David Buckman of New Jersey; brothers, David Peebles and wife Mary and Kenneth Peebles; nieces and nephews, Lee Kelly Bowditch, Bert Kelly, Melinda Peebles Smith, Laurie Peebles Corr, David Peebles Jr., Jonathan Peebles, Kay Peebles Ferguson and Butch Peebles; and 19 great-nieces and great- nephews.
