Janet H. Parker, of Hayes, born March 8, 1945, died on Sunday, July 16, 2017, after a courageous battle with ALS. 

Janet was a Ferguson High School graduate as well as an East Carolina University graduate.

She was a devoted teacher for Newport News and Mathews elementary schools and she loved her students. She had a great sense of humor that always made her approachable and fun to be with. Janet will always be remembered by the countless students she guided. 

Janet is survived by her son, Todd Parker; sister, Nancy Kausch, and her brother, David Harper. 

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at Peninsula Memorial Park.

Arrangements were in the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, Newport News.
