JANE CATHERINE “KITTY” STATON

Jane Catherine “Kitty” Staton of Gloucester, Va., passed away on April 11, 2015, after several years of ill health. Kitty was born in Richmond, Va., on Dec. 27, 1924. She moved briefly to Ohio then returned to Richmond. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, attended Mary Washington College for two years before having to come home to care for her mother. She graduated from VCU in 1973. She was employed as a school librarian in Dinwiddie Co. Kitty and Moe were active in Midlothian Chapter No. 85, Chester No. 121 and Oriental Chapter No. 30 Order of the Eastern Star. They traveled extensively, including 43 states and 3 Canadian provinces. She enjoyed crafts, reading, collecting coins, Dickens Village, and puzzles. She also enjoyed doing needlework. They had a great 57 years together.

She was predeceased by her parents, Myrtle and David Avery.

She is survived by her husband, Herman H. “Moe” Staton Jr.; three daughters, Duane Seller of Portsmouth, Va., Kathleen Madison and Sue Pryor of Chesterfield, Va.; one son, Gregg Staton of Wilson, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, her beloved grand-dog “Phiney”; a half-sister, Penny Avery-Deutsch and a half-brother, David Avery, and a “special friend,” Barbara Burtchett.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at noon in Westville Christian Church, 261 Main Street, Mathews, Va. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
