Monday, Jan. 9 has been set as the deadline to receive applications to fill the vacancy on the Mathews County School Board.

Jen Little, who has served on the school board for the past nine years, tendered her resignation at the board’s Dec. 13 meeting, creating the vacancy. The interim appointment would run through Dec. 31, 2017.

Applications must be turned in by 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, to superintendent Nancy Welch in order to be considered. The application can be found on the school division’s website, www.mathews.k12.va.us. Under Quick Links, click on “School Board Resources” and “Employment” to find the application.

A public hearing on the candidates will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10 in the Mathews High School media center to receive the names of the applicants.
