JAMES THOMAS FERGUSON

BMC James Thomas Ferguson, USCG-ret., 64, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on April 9, 2020.

Jim, the son of Thomas and Arlis Ferguson, was raised in Xenia, Ohio, and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard shortly after graduating from high school. He served honorably for 21 years, retiring from his last duty station in Mathews in 1995.

Jim was a skilled craftsman and applied his gift to boatmaking and repair in the Northern Neck area for most of his time after retirement. He was always quick to make friends with those he met and made an extra effort to treat those around him like family. Some of his greatest enjoyments in life were hunting, fishing, and spending time with those whom he loved.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Tom Ferguson, and son, Nick Ferguson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Hudgins Ferguson; children, Jeremiah Ferguson, Tony Ferguson (Jennifer), Amy Ferguson, Tom Jarvis (Amy), David Jarvis, Rebecca Mahoney (Tom); mother, Arlis Ferguson; brother, Tim Ferguson (Rhonda); sister, Tammy Billows (Geoff). He also leaves behind his treasured grandchildren, Andrea, Chris, Tommy, Ashton, Mira, Peyton, Stephen, John Luke, Nick, Ashley, Hailey, Charlotte, Jacob, Ben, and Alice, and numerous others that he dearly loved.

A memorial service is planned for a later date.
