JAMES STEDMAN KITCHELL

James Stedman Kitchell, 72, of Wicomico, died suddenly at his home Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013.

Jim was the only child of George and Helen Renouf Kitchell. Born in Long Island, N.Y., he grew up in New Hampton, N.H.

Jim served in the U.S. Air Force and then the U.S. Navy from which he retired as Senior Chief. He served during the Vietnam War. He then began a career traveling the world again, as an engineer for General Dynamics Corporation.

Jim’s life has been marked by community service, serving in many capacities over the years. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Rappahannock River Railroad Club and the Disabled American Veterans Association at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie Fields Kitchell; children, Kim Leggett (Tommy), David Savage (Rose) and Carrie Savage (Tim Tuggle); his grandchildren, David Savage Jr., Tom Leggett III, Boe Savage, Dustin Savage, Jennifer Stubblefield and Stephanie Marshall; great-grandchildren, Angela, Shelby, Ashton and Brandon Savage.

A Celebration of Life service with military honors was held at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. The Rev. Daniel C. Warren officiated. The family received friends prior to the service on Monday beginning at 2 p.m. Inurnment was private.
