Deacon James Roger Carter, 76, of Gloucester, died on Saturday, April 20, 2024. He was a native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and was a member of Union Zion Baptist Church, Gloucester.

Survivors include his wife, the Rev. Betty Griffin Carter; brother, Wilton Carter, and sister, Virginia Eley. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Carter and Bernice Leonard; son, Charles Gregory Artis; four brothers and one sister.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27 in Union Zion Baptist Church with a viewing from noon until the service begins.
