JAMES MONROE JARVIS

James Monroe Jarvis, 92, Gwynn’s Island, Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012. He was born Nov. 17, 1919.

He was a member of Redeeming Grace Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the 232nd Field Artillery Battalion from Nov. 15, 1941 until he was honorably discharged in January 1946.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary M. Jarvis; his parents, Sidney James and Georgia May Jarvis; a sister, Annie May Jarvis; a brother, John F. Jarvis, and one great-grandson, Christopher Walker Hudgins.

He is survived by a daughter, Gayle J. Hudgins (Tyrone) of Grimstead, Va.; a son, James R. “Bucky” Jarvis (Melissa) of Hayes, Va.; eight grandchildren, Bart Jarvis, Kent Jarvis (Courtney), Karla J. McMahon (Chuck), Christopher K. Hudgins (Amy), Stephen A. Hudgins (Amy), M. Neal Hudgins (Kasey), Ryan M. Hudgins (Regan), and J. Ross Hudgins; two step-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Rhett McWright, and 12 great-grandchildren.

His grandsons were his pallbearers.

The family received friends on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, from 7- 8 p.m. at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Va. There was a graveside service on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at 2 p.m. in Gwynn’s Island Cemetery, Grimstead.
