JAMES ‘MAC’ HUDGINS

September 22, 1928-April 23, 2025

James “Mac” Hudgins born in 1928 passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. He was 96 years old.

Mac was born and grew up in Mathews County, Va., where he met his wife of 73 years, Liz, who passed in 2023.

When not working on telephone systems, he pursued his true passion as a waterman. From his home on Broad Bay Island, which was designed by Liz, he spent his leisure time fishing, crabbing, oyster harvesting, and just enjoying the water. He and Liz also found time to raise four children.

Mac was preceded in death by his beloved wife Liz; parents, Anthony and Hattie Hudgins; brother, Homer Hudgins, and daughter, Donna Mildred Hudgins.

He is survived by his children: James Jr., David Lee (wife Sherri), Lisa Schweich and David Peer, Anne Myers (husband Lewis); seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, cherished neighbors and friends.

Both Mac and Liz left a positive mark on many lives. They will be missed.
