James L. Sanford, 79, of Gloucester, Va., and Vero Beach, Fla., passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013.

He is survived by Jeannette, his wife of 56 years; his two sons, Dan and Mike; six grandchildren, and a sister, Elizabeth Kubica in California.

Jim was born in Schenectady, N.Y., and was the son of Leonard and Vivian Sanford.

Jim was a veteran of the Air Force and a graduate of Cornell University.

He was an avid gardener, traveler and sailor. He and his wife lived aboard their sailboat, “Zoe,” for six years and voyaged from the Caribbean to New Zealand where they lived for six years.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
