James Garfield Smith of Mathews, died on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025, at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Gloucester.

He was born on June 17, 1963 to the late James Tyler and Christine Smith at Cobbs Creek.

Survivors include his sisters, Carolyn Jones, Eleanor Dixon and Nancy Beverly.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 27, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Cobbs Creek. The viewing will be held at the church from 11 a.m.-noon. Interment will be held noon Monday, Sept. 29, at Windsor Gardens Cemetery, Dutton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Ebenezer Baptist Church, 3601 Buckley Hall Road, Cobbs Creek, Va. 23035.

Forrest Brothers Funeral Home, Hudgins, will be in charge of the service.
