JAMES EDWARD WEST SR.

James Edward West Sr., 79, of Locust Hill, died Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

James was a native of Middlesex County. He was a Korean War veteran and a retired construction worker. He received his education in the Middlesex County public school system.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Estelle Robinson West, and his son, James E. West Jr.

He is survived by his of wife of 52 years, Virginia; three daughters, Virginia Evelyn West (Franklin), Carleen W. Lockley of Locust Hill, Earnestine W. Briggs (Lewis) of West Point; two sons, Michael A. West Sr. of Gloucester, and Carl L. West of Locust Hill; one sister, Mary Louise W. Monroe of Locust Hill; one brother, Alexander E. West Jr. (Mary Ellen) of Plainfield, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The service celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at the Calvary Baptist Church, Saluda. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The viewing will be Friday, noon to 4 p.m., at the J.K. Redmond Funeral Home, Shacklefords, and 6-8 p.m. at the church.
