James Edward Garretty, Esq., of Gloucester, passed away on Dec. 27, 2016, as a result of congestive heart failure. He was 70 years of age.  Heaven welcomes him.

He was a member of the California Bar, was certified by the Supreme Court of California, and was an attorney and counselor for the Supreme Court of the United States. His distinguished career in law spanned decades.

Jimmy grew up in Hobart, Indiana, and resided in Washington State, Hawaii, and Los Angeles, California, before moving to Gloucester in 2007, to enthusiastically pursue retirement, golf, and his great love of football.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Lynn Garretty; his sons, Sean Patrick Garretty and Christopher James Garretty; his stepdaughter, Jaclyn Faith Greene; his brother, Patrick Garretty, as well as many friends around the country who loved him and will miss him.

A private service for family will be held in Gloucester.
