James Carter of Mathews, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2017.

James was born March 19, 1944 to the late Willie Carter and Louise Carter-Cox. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Stokes-Carter; wife, Olivia Carter-Stokes; his brother, Willie Carter Jr., and sister, Kathleen Carter Jones.

He leaves to cherish his memory, three brothers, William, Charles, and Emmett Jr.; grandson, Devon; stepson, Melvin Stokes, and a host of nieces and nephews.  

His infectious laugh and smile will be missed by many.

A memorial gathering will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2017, in Emmaus Baptist Church, North.
