James Anthony (Tony) Carter, 57, of Winchester, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, after bravely battling cancer.

He grew up in King & Queen and Gloucester counties before moving to Winchester where he most recently worked at Candy Hill Campground. Anthony was best known for his sense of humor and taking care of those in need including a host of stray cats. He will be missed greatly by all.

Survivors include his mother, Katherine Smith; brother, Al Carter (Mary); sister, Nina Carter, and very special friend, William Gammon. Also left to cherish his memory are several aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces with whom he loved sharing a laugh.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the many nurses, doctors, and friends who took such good care of him.

A memorial service will be held at Bellamy United Methodist Church on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winchester American Cancer Society (in memory of James Anthony Carter) at 1833 Plaza Dr., Winchester, Va. 22601.
