JAMES A. ‘CHUCK’ JOHNSTON

James A. “Chuck” Johnston of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2016.

He was accompanied on his journey by family members and compassionate caregivers. Born in 1933, he graduated from Newport News High School, class of 1951. He then attended the Apprentice School and was employed at NNS&DD Co. for 44 years. He retired in 1996 as a master machinist.

Chuck was a devoted husband and father, active church member, and proud descendant of the Johnston Clan.

He was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Catherine Newbill Johnston.

He will be remembered and cherished by his children (and their spouses), Theresa J. “Terri” Larsen (Jim), Lisa J. Machen (Dave), James A. “Jim” Johnston (Pam), Holly J. Stallman, Stephen A. Johnston, and Joy J. McCormick (Mike). In addition, he was loved and honored by his nine grandsons and six great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate God’s love in Chuck’s life was held on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Apostles Lutheran Church in Gloucester, Virginia.

Memorial donations may be made to Apostles Lutheran Church or Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad.
