J. MITCHELL HOGGE

J. Mitchell Hogge, 92, of Hayes, died on Nov. 14, 2013 at Riverside Regional Medical Center with his family by his side.
 
Born in Gloucester, Va., on July 3, 1921, he was the son of Norman F. and Mary Virginia Hogge. Mitchell served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Medic in Italy. He was a long standing member of Providence Baptist Church and its Men’s Fellowship Class, and a retired civil service employee at Yorktown Naval Weapons Station. Following retirement, Mitchell served as a volunteer at Walter Reed Convalescent Center for 20 years. A loving father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he will be remembered for his kindness and his devotion to family.
 
Mitchell was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Naomi Hogge; parents, Norman F. and Mary Virginia Hogge; sister, Mae Hogge; brothers, Marcellus Hogge, Norman Hogge and Marion Lee Hogge; twin grandsons, Arnold and Anthony, and grandson, Michael Hogge.
 
He is survived by his daughter, Diane Hogge and husband Ellis; son, Raymond Burris and wife Fay; granddaughter, Veronica Burris;  grandsons, Brian Hogge and wife Lisa, and Roger Burris and fiancée Tammy Stanfield; granddaughter-in-law, Michelle Hogge; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Kyle, Taylor, Tyler and Ryan; brothers, Mervin Hogge and Delbert Hogge and wife Elizabeth.
 
Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Dr. Richard Croxton were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at Providence Baptist Church. Interment followed in Bellamy United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends prior to the service on Sunday from 2-3 p.m. at the church.
