It’s been a busy December at the Bay School

The year 2021 is winding down, but that hasn’t stopped activities at the Bay School in Mathews. December was busy at the community arts center, beginning with the second weekend of the Made in Mathews Open Studio Tour.

This year, for the first time, the tour sponsored an art contest for local high school students, said a press release. Mathews High School art teacher Rachel Morris incorporated the contest into her classes, with students creating original artwork based on the theme “Fire and Ice.”

The students themselves selected 19 works to send to the Bay School to be displayed and judged by a team of artists from the Open Studio Tour, and a reception was held on Dec. 1 for the student artists to meet the professionals.
