The Gwynn’s Island Civic League Foundation will hold a Dine to Donate from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Olivia’s in the Village, 6597 Main Street in Gloucester Court House.
Diners may eat in or take out all day, and a portion of the day’s receipts will go to support educational grants and scholarships on Gwynn’s Island and in Mathews.
Community partners BayPort Credit Union, Chesapeake Wealth Management, and Vashti’s Jewelers have also contributed funds to the effort, a release said.
Gary Ward, owner of Olivia’s, has a personal attachment to Mathews County Public Schools, said a press release. His father, Harry M. Ward, spent most of his career teaching and coaching football at Mathews High School. He was also superintendent of schools for many years, overseeing much expansion and building in the system. Mathews High School’s Harry M. Ward Auditorium was named after him, and the Harry M. and Margaret H. Ward Scholarship is awarded each year to a graduating senior who will be pursuing a degree in education.
