Irish concert to be held in Kilmarnock on March 16

Celtic harpist Maeve Gilchrist and Irish folk singer Karan Casey will perform with an ensemble from the Virginia Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, at Lancaster Elementary School, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock.

The show is hosted by the Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts. Doors open at 7 p.m.

“If you can’t be in Ireland for St. Patrick’s Day, be in Kilmarnock Saturday night, March 16,” said a press release.

The two artists are known for their “innovation, excellence, and joy in performing,” said the release, adding that Gilchrist will perform her own Celtic Harp Concerto, while Casey “will offer us soulful takes on traditional ballads and reels” such as “The Irish Washerwoman” and “Danny Boy.”

Gilchrist travels internationally as a solo artist, band leader, and composer, straddling the worlds of folk and classical music said the release.
