IRIS LESLIE WYATT WEST

With profound sadness, the family of Iris Leslie Wyatt West of Hayes, announces her passing on Monday, September 29, 2025, at the age of 89, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Mars Hill, N.C., Iris came to Virginia in her 20s and settled in the Jenkins Neck area of Hayes with her husband, Nelson, in 1960. Iris was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a generous, fun-loving friend to many. She had a passion and talent for cooking and baking, transforming her gifts into her career as a cafeteria manager in several Gloucester public schools for over 13 years.

Her soft spot throughout her life was always children. The West property often hosted neighborhood baseball, football, and golf matches where Iris provided countless gallons of Kool-Aid and sandwiches to anyone there when lunch rolled around. She loved flower and vegetable gardening and canning, exercising, traveling, and spending time with friends and family in retirement with Nelson. Her greatest joy was her five grandchildren, Kristen Davis-Mazzocca, Samuel May, Virginia Grace May, Harrison West, Brook West, and her great-grandchild, Emmalina. Iris was preceded in death by her parents, Iris and Kenneth Wyatt of Mars Hill, N.C., and her four brothers, Anon Wyatt, John Wyatt, Landon Wyatt, and Norman Wyatt. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ira Nelson West Jr. of Hayes; her children, Jeffory West and wife Marilyn of Yorktown, Va., Alisa West and husband Thomas May of Wrentham, Mass., Warren West and wife Ellen of Richmond, Va.; her grandchildren and great-grandchild, Keith Hogge of Henderson, Nevada, whom she always considered a son; and her many nieces and nephews. A private celebration of life service will be announced at a later date.

Services under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home.
