Investigator position added to budget

Budget talks continued during Tuesday’s meeting of the Gloucester Board of Supervisors in the colonial courthouse. Originally the board was scheduled to adopt its Fiscal Year 2024 budget during that meeting, but instead changed the agenda item to budget discussions.

County Administrator Carol Steele discussed a few changes to the proposed operational budget. The first reflected additional revenue of $243,654 from the State Compensation Board. Of that amount, $90,000 will be used for an investigator position within the Gloucester Sheriff’s Office, leaving around $150,000 in additional revenue to be allocated.

Sheriff Darrell Warren said at a previous meeting that his department really needed an investigator, but there wasn’t room in the budget at that time. He planned to request the position during next year’s budget season.
