Insurance agent collecting supplies for hurricane victims

 

The Baxter Insurance Group is seeking public support to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas.

Owner John Baxter of Gloucester said he was so concerned about the impact of the major hurricane and the resulting flooding in Texas that he knew he had to do something. The first thing he did was to rent a truck and then posted on Facebook.

“The response has been tremendous,” Baxter said Friday. He said people have been dropping off nonperishable food items, bottled water, packaged snacks, pet foods, laundry and cleaning supplies, toiletries, work gloves, gift cards, baby formula and other items.

“We are not taking used clothing donations at this time,” the Baxter website said.

When the truck is filled, Baxter plans to drive to Texas with agent Kenny Richardson and Roy King of Gloucester. King previously lived in Beaumont, Texas, and is familiar with that state. If enough goods are donated, Baxter said he will rent another truck for the long drive ...
