Insley wins second Micro-Triathlon

Joel Isley was the top overall finisher once again in the second Mathews Micro-Triathlon of the four-race series on July 13, finishing the contest with a time of 49:05.4. He previously took the top prize on June 15.

The triathlon series is being held at Williams Wharf and is sponsored by Virginia Tidewater Trailrunners. Saturday’s tri included a quarter-mile swim, eight-mile bike ride and two-mile run.

Coming in second and third among 27 participants were Zachary Gibbs (51:12.4) and Doug Parades (52:12.4). The top finisher among female participants was Haley Uliasz (53:36.6), followed by Beth Burnside (56:26.8) and Helen Morris (56:47.8).

Subsequent micro-tris are scheduled at Williams Wharf for Aug. 17 and Sept. 14. The August event is a change-up from traditional triathlons. It starts with a shorter run, then transitions to a longer swim (one mile), and finishes with a short bike ride, according to Christine Johnson, one of the series organizers.
