INEZ WARD SMITH

Inez Ward Smith, 101, surrounded by her family, went to be with the Lord Dec. 30, 2017. 

A lifelong resident of Mathews, she was born May 13, 1916. She was a member of Emmanuel UMC, United Methodist Women, Mathews Woman’s Club, a volunteer for American Red Cross, was active in bowling leagues and card clubs, and loved gardening.

She was County Court Clerk of Gloucester, Mathews, and Middlesex, and retired after 16 years.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents, Nettie and Isaac Ward; husband of 64 years, William; daughter, Carolyn; grandson, Drew; and seven sisters.

She is survived by her daughters, Rita Welty and Jeanette Prunty; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

Inez spent the last few years of her life in Riverside Convalescent Center-Mathews. Her family wishes to thank the staff for their kindnesses.

Visitation will be from 12-1 p.m., with a service following at 1 o’clock Saturday, Jan. 6 at Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews. Burial will be in Providence Cemetery.
