Indigenous Peoples’ Day to be observed

Machicomoco State Park will hold an Indigenous Peoples’ Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday.

Booths and tables will be set up at the park’s interpretive area with activities for park guests to take part in. Guest can also participate in demonstrations on native technology and tools.

The focus of the event will be on learning the history of the Algonquin peoples as well as the wildlife and natural resources of the park and how the First Virginians utilized them.

The event will be small this year due to COVID-19, but there are plans to expand it next year. For more information, call 804-642-2419 or email Machicomoco@dcr.virginia.gov.
