In Mathews: NAACP hears from local hopefuls

Forty-five people attended Mathews County’s first all-virtual candidate forum Tuesday night. Held via the Zoom platform, the forum was sponsored by the Mathews NAACP and moderated by the Rev. Dr. Marcus Stallworth, pastor of Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church.

All candidates for the Mathews County Board of Supervisors, the Mathews County School Board, and Virginia 98th District delegate were invited to attend or to submit a three-minute introductory video, said NAACP president Edith Turner.

Supervisor candidates who attended were Billy Cook, Dee Russell, and incumbent Mike Rowe, while Mike Walls submitted a video. Dave Jones sent his regrets and did not submit a video. School board candidates who were present were Bobby Dobson, Lorraine Forrest and Samantha Morgan, with incumbent Linda Hodges submitting a video. Neither candidate for state office was present and neither submitted a video.
