In Gloucester: Opponents absent from candidate forum

In a virtual candidate forum held last Wednesday night and broadcast on Facebook, five local candidates running for office in Gloucester got the chance to take their campaigns to the voters.

Incumbent school board members Anita Parker and Elisa Nelson, incumbent at-large supervisor Kevin Smith, Petsworth District supervisor candidate Ken Gibson, and Democratic Party House of Delegates hopeful Dr. Ella Webster fielded questions from the evening’s moderator and were given a chance to make brief opening and closing statements.

Absent from the forum, held jointly by the Gloucester NAACP and CircleUp Middle Peninsula, were the opponents to the five candidates in this year’s general election—Petsworth District school board candidate Karen Espinoza (running against Parker), York District school board candidate Carlton Drew (running against Nelson), incumbent Petsworth District supervisor Mike Winebarger (opposed by Gibson), at-large supervisor candidate Teresa Altemus (running against ...
