IDA MAE MILES

Ida Mae Miles of Mathews, Virginia, died June 28, 2016.

She was born in Gloucester, Virginia, October 4, 1924, the daughter of Marvin A. and Ida Sue Jenkins. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Joseph B. Thomas; sister, Terethia J. Postlethwait; brother, Kenneth W. Jenkins and companion, Lawrence Oliver.

She is survived by her sons, Randolph Parker Miles of Mathews, and Louis Stephen Miles (Mava) of New Kent, Va.; sister, Barbara J. Clements; brother-in-law, Dr. F. Niel Postlethwait. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Willie R. Miles, Madison S. Miles, and McKenna Y. Miles.

Mae was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend, especially supportive of her two sons. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She attended Smithdeal-Massey Business School and worked during WWII at Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, Virginia. She later returned to complete a 30-year career. Mae was a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Mathews County Woman’s Club.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 1, at Central United Methodist Church, 121 Church St., Mathews, Va. 23109 with burial to follow in the Gloucester Point Cemetery, 1860 Hayes Road, Gloucester, Va. 23062.
