Hurricanes edge Dukes, 35-28

Gloucester High School put up four touchdowns but came up short, 35-28, to Heritage in the Dukes’ first game on the road Saturday at Todd Stadium.

The Hurricanes were up, 14-0, in the first half before Gloucester made it 15-14 at the break. Rashad Williams ran the ball in from seven yards for a Gloucester touchdown and quarterback Isaiah Spencer ran for his first of two rushing TDs. The Dukes also scored a safety after Peyton Carneal blocked a Heritage punt. 

The third quarter belonged to the Hurricanes as they scored three TDs to put the score at 35-15. In the final quarter, Spencer threw to Lamar Bady for a touchdown and rushed for his second TD on the night to make it 35-28 but that would be all the scoring for Gloucester. Dukes’ head coach John Scalf cited the play of Spencer, who rushed for a pair of TDs and passed for one, in the game and the defense of Joe Conroy, who had 14 tackles in the loss.
