Hunley named assistant superintendent

The top administrative team for Mathews County Public Schools has been set.

In February, the school board named current assistant superintendent Nancy B. Welch as the division’s new superintendent, beginning July 1. On Tuesday night, Lesley R. Hunley was tapped as her replacement.

Following a closed meeting, the school board appointed Hunley as the division’s second in command. She will receive a salary of $86,207, according to Welch.

Hunley, 29, is currently the division’s gifted education coordinator, a position she has held since 2010. Last year, she was also asked to take on the task of director of testing for Mathews County Schools.
