Hunger in our own backyard: B&G Club members explore issue in Mathews

The Mathews Boys & Girls Club sponsors a program for teenagers, the Keystone Club, that encourages academic excellence, preparing for careers and community service. As a member of this club, I have been exploring hunger in our own backyard. As I researched and interviewed people who work with hunger in Mathews, I realized there are many more people around me that do not have sufficient food. I also learned there are many organizations, agencies and individuals who are working to end hunger in Mathews.

Meals on Wheels

Mathews residents from ages 50 to 100 get food through Meals on Wheels. This program takes an army of people to get food prepared and delivered to homes of individuals who cannot get out or can no longer prepare their own food. Participants have been interviewed by Bay Aging to qualify. Mathews Meals on Wheels is the only such program that serves fresh, daily prepared food.
