Humane Society holds Family Fun Day

Despite periods of intense rain, the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society hosted its second annual Family Fun Day Saturday. Visitors had the chance to tour the facility, shop for their pets, enjoy a cookout and more.

During the tours of the facility, staff showed visitors the many dogs, cats and other animals available for adoption. The tour also took guests through the full process that rescued animals go through, from intake to housing. The staff explained the numerous protocols, medical and otherwise, that are in place to ensure the health and safety of the animals, employees and volunteers.

The event also featured roughly a dozen booths of pet food, toys and accessories for sale, a cookout and obedience displays by trained dogs. Gloucester K-9 units had planned to give a demonstration as well, but rain prevented this as the handlers did not want their dogs to work on slippery or otherwise dangerous surfaces.
