HRSD buys lot on Main Street for Mathews pump station

The Hampton Roads Sanitation District has purchased a lot on Main Street in Mathews for a new pump station for the downtown sanitary district.

Mathews residents Maria P. Saunders, Clarke T. Richardson Jr., and Rosanna R. Cooke sold the 0.0711-acre lot. It was originally part of a larger lot in the field where Mathews Market Days art shows used to be held, adjacent to Moughons hardware store’s parking lot. The purchase price was $215,000. More than an acre of the original lot remains for sale.

HRSD Director of Communications Leila Rice said that engineering work on the project has not yet begun, so no site plan is yet available. She said that a preliminary engineering report will be completed in January and that construction is tentatively scheduled for October 2018 through spring 2020.
