HRPDC authorizes creation of regional strategic plan

The Hampton Roads Planning District Commission has authorized the creation of a process to develop a regional strategic plan.

Jai McBride, principal regional planner for HRPDC, said that the first step in developing a regional strategic plan will be establishing community values, identifying what’s important for government agencies, the military, businesses and average citizens throughout Hampton Roads. Gloucester County is a member jurisdiction of HRPDC.

HRPDC is taking the lead for the initial stages of what’s being termed "Envision Hampton Roads," McBride said, which is being modeled somewhat after a statewide plan in Utah.

To gather input, McBride said an online survey has been set up and she hopes many groups and individuals throughout the area will share their views on transportation, health care, economic development and jobs, and other topics. To participate in the survey, go to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LNPWBL2.
