HOY MCKINLEY FITZGERALD

Mac, 77, passed away Jan. 29, 2021. He was born at home on March 5, 1943, in the small community of Faber in Nelson County, Va., and was a resident of Hayes, Va., for over 50 years. He worked at the American Oil refinery in Yorktown and later at the Anheuser-Busch brewery in Williamsburg, retiring after 28 years as foreman in the powerhouse. He was well respected by his co-workers and made trips to Tampa, Fla., Cartersville, Ga., Ft. Collins, Colo., and Los Angeles, Calif., to teach powerhouse procedures.

He was an honest and straight-forward, multi-talented man who could do or fix just about anything and stood tall in the eyes of his many friends, especially his sons. He enjoyed hunting with Ark Hunt Club, playing poker on Thursday nights, taking day trips and road trips with his friends, delivering Meals on Wheels and tinkering in the garage, and he loved most cats and dogs, who loved him right back.

Mac was predeceased by his parents, Hoy Hansford Fitzgerald and Audrey Brooks Fitzgerald Bainey; brother, William Hansford Fitzgerald, and sister, Priscilla Ann Wood. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jeannie; his sons, Jason and Adam; granddaughter, Victoria Fitzgerald; sister, Mary Eastman, and brother, Wayne Fitzgerald.
