Howard’s Signs is a newcomer to the sign-making scene in Mathews County, but owner Howard Hudgins has a proven track record in that business.

Hudgins owned and operate Signworks of Virginia, Inc. for over 15 years but then left to operate a boatyard. Both businesses were located in Mathews.

Hudgins recently opened Howard’s Signs in a building he purchased on Route 14, North.

“I found that I greatly missed designing and creating signs,” he said. “An opportunity arose for me to get back into the business and move into my original sign building so I took advantage of it.”

Hudgins said he makes signs from materials that include wood, plastic and metal. He can use a customer’s design or employ his talents to design the sign. He installs his finished products. His service area is principally Gloucester, Mathews and Middlesex counties. He makes all types of signs, including business, yard, storefront, custom residential and even sandblasted signs....
