HOWARD R. CREWS

Howard R. Crews, 73, of Gloucester, died July 17, 2016, at the Gloucester House.

Howard was born July 9, 1943 to John H. and Mildred Timberlake Crews in Newport News, and he attended Warwick High School. Howard was a Vietnam veteran, worked as a longshoreman and retired from the International Longshoremen’s Association. He was a baptized Christian and member of Salem United Methodist Church, Gloucester. He enjoyed racing at Langley Speedway and other race tracks and did flat track motorcycle racing. He had a love for hotrods and NASCAR racing and was also a Harley-Davidson enthusiast. His passing leaves a void, but his memories fill our hearts forever.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Amanda Crews; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ripley, Christopher Ripley and Rachael Martinez, and his canine best buddy, Rufus.

He is survived by son, Christopher Crews and wife Kristy Crews of Gloucester; daughter, Kimberley Crews and husband Robert Jones of Modesto, California; Samantha Lauterbach, whom he raised as his own, and husband Kevin Lauterbach of Monroe, North Carolina; step-children, Angel Davis of Fredericksburg and Kelly Marvuglio of Newport News; grandchildren, Kyle, Autumn and Evan Lauterbach and Cody and Kaylin Boutin; brothers and sisters, Johnny Crews, David Crews, Phyllis Estrada and Sandra Blanchard, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service conducted by the Rev. Rita Staul will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Salem United Methodist Church, 11408 Salem Church Road, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
