Howard-Dooley Café to open at former Beach Bum site

The Howard-Dooley Café will be opening soon in Mathews at the site of the former Beach Bum BBQ at Ward’s Corner.

Recently purchased by Robby and Tracey Sorey of Mathews, the café is being freshened up with a new coat of paint and undergoing minor repairs in preparation for an early December opening.

The Soreys said the name of the business is a combination of both of their fathers' names—Howard for his dad, and Dooley (a nickname) for hers.

The restaurant, which will feature homemade Carolina barbecue and home-cured meats, will be open seven days a week for breakfast and lunch, from 7 a.m. to 2 or 3 p.m., and will remain open until 8 p.m. for dinner Thursday through Saturday. Meals will be available on-site as pandemic conditions allow, and carry-out will be available. A new walk-up, carry-out window will be installed in the restaurant soon.
