Household hazardous waste collection to be held Oct. 19

The Fall 2013 Household Harmful Waste Collection Day will be held from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Hayes Convenience Center, 7599 Guinea Road.

William Bell, Gloucester’s Clean Community coordinator, said Monday that the collection is open only to residents of Gloucester County.

The collection is "the best way for Gloucester County residents to rid their homes of hazardous items in a way that is safe for their family, community and the environment," Bell said. If you miss this collection, he said, the next such event in Gloucester won’t be held until April 19, 2014.

Items that can be brought to the center for proper disposal include automobile hazardous waste, including antifreeze and brake and transmission fluids, painting supplies like paints, thinners and wood preservatives; gardening supplies, including pesticides and herbicides, and household items like toxic household cleaners, mercury, pool chemicals and batteries.
