Bread making has been Emma Lee Walton’s claim to fame in her kitchen and a favorite method of cooking from an early age.

“I was five years old when I became fascinated with bread making. I was always the one in the kitchen with my mother. That’s how I learned to cook. My one sister didn’t like to cook and still doesn’t. We had five brothers, so my mother did a lot of food preparations. I remember once when my mother was sick, I had to take over the cooking for the family. My brothers said it was ‘ok but please let mom do the cooking.’ But when I was married I knew how to cook.

“I love to cook and still do a lot of it, but not as much as I did when my three sons were home. But with grandchildren, seven of them, great-grandchildren, eight of them, and the one great-great-grandchild, I try to fix what they like when I know they are coming down. My grandsons come quite often. With just James and myself, I usually prepare enough for two days...
