Hooked on summer

We’re sorry to interrupt our regularly scheduled display of flowers, but this week we are showing some scenes of summer. We asked the community to send us photos that represent summer so far. We’ve received quite a collection of wildlife photos and a few of summer fun. Don’t worry, the flowers will return next week. To send us your own scenes of summer, email them to tbass@gazettejournal.net.

Larry Sherertz took these shots of a heron snapping up a blue crab straight out of Timberneck Creek.

Linda Tjossem sent us a pair of birds this week. At left is an osprey midflight, at right is the silhouette of a hummingbird perched on a clothes line.

RIta Anderson sent us a shot of ospreys she dubbed Romeo, left, and Juliet, right. She said the pair attempted to build a nest on their 40-foot boat which caused Anderson to take the boat to a marina. The ospreys then settled for building a nest on a raised 16-foot skiff.
